Tropical Wave #15 transiting over Costa Rica early Monday morning

Diagnosis: During the course of early Monday morning, tropical wave #15 will be passing over the national territory. Although it is a weak tropical wave, it will be interacting with the Intertropical Convergence Zone -which is close to the country- and will create favorable conditions for intense precipitation, but its distribution will be dispersed throughout the national territory.

Forecast: During the morning there is the possibility of scattered rains near the Caribbean coast and plains of the Northern Zone, with estimated amounts between 15 mm and 30 mm with maximum amounts of up to 50 mm.

In the afternoon, showers with scattered thunderstorms are expected near the Pacific and western Central Valley mountains with estimated amounts between 10 mm and 20 mm and maximum amounts of up to 30 mm.

Warning: Caution for thunderstorm events that may be accompanied by downbursts. Short duration heavy rains may cause occasional flooding in prone areas.

 

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• - Caution before the possible saturation of the sewage system in areas prone to flooding due to water accumulation.
• - Prevention before thunderstorms: in case of strong wind gusts near thunderstorm clouds, it is recommended to seek shelter in a safe place, as they could generate falling tree branches, power lines or other objects. These gusts can reach up to 80 km/h in isolated cases.
