Aviso Meteorológico

Afectación por onda tropical #9 este domingo

21 de junio de 2020.
10:50 am

Diagnosis: As tropical wave # 9 continues to move west this morning, the instability associated with its passage generates rainy conditions in the Caribbean Sea near the east coast of Nicaragua and central Panama. At the moment the impact on Costa Rica is minimal, generating variable cloudiness without rainfall in the east and center of the country.

Forecast: For this afternoon and early evening, rainy activity will be seen in various areas of the national territory. Localized storm rains are anticipated for the country's mountainous areas, particularly in the Central Valley regions as well as the Central and South Pacific. On the other hand, in the Northern Zone (especially on the border with Nicaragua) and the Caribbean regions, specific rains are anticipated with the possibility of occasional downpours throughout the same period. For the North Pacific, the most important rains are anticipated for the surroundings of the Nicoya Peninsula with scattered showers.

Warnings: Special attention in the Pacific and Central Valley regions, since in these places the greatest accumulated rainfall is expected for this Sunday.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  •     Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
  •     Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
  •     Attention on the main national highways, such as route 27 and route 32.
  •     Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB page: www.imn.ac.cr
