Weather Warning

Isolated downpours with evening storms

April 20, 2020
10.50 am

Diagnosis: Very hot conditions have occurred this morning in the national territory, which have reached this time: 28.8 ° C in Alajuela, 28.5 ° C in Heredia, 27.7 ° C in San José, 27.9 ° C in Pavas and 26 ° C in Cartago, up to 34 ° C in Guanacaste and 32 ° C in the North Zone, this condition coupled with the entry of moisture from the Pacific Ocean in most of the Central Valley and Pacific from early hours on Monday, are increasing the potential of isolated and evening precipitations for today.

Forecast: During the afternoon, favorable conditions for isolated showers with thunderstorms will be generated in the mountains of the Central Pacific, South Pacific, North Zone, Caribbean, the expected amounts are between 15-50 mm in periods of 6 hours.

On the other hand, in the Central Valley there will be isolated showers with an electrical storm, particularly in the east of the region; the expected amounts of rain will be between 10-60 mm in periods of 6 hours.

In the night period isolated showers are expected in the South Pacific and coastal sector of the Central Pacific only, estimated amounts between 5-20 mm in 6 hours.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation, especially in regions of the South Pacific and east of the Central Valley, as well as mountains of the Northern Caribbean and Northern Zone.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
