Weather Warning

Rain and Storm in the Caribbean

September 16, 2020
01:00 a.m.

Weather Warning
Downpours and thunderstorms in the Caribbean
September 16, 2020
1:00 am.

Diagnosis: The Intertropical Convergence Zone is located over Costa Rica, it is providing atmospheric instability and humidity from both maritime sectors. Storm rains are monitored in the South Caribbean and South Pacific in the last 3 hours.

Forecast: For the first hours of the morning, downpours of variable intensity with electrical storms are expected in the South Pacific, Central Pacific and South Caribbean, part of these rains will reach the North Pacific coast in the next 3 hours.

In the Central Valley weak rains and banks of fog are expected.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
  •  Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm   clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
  • Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
