Weather Warning

Rains will spread to the early hours of the night Tropical Wave - Arrival # 14 Thursday afternoon

July 01, 2020
05.40 p.m.

Discussion: High levels of humidity in the atmosphere added to the instability generated by the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, this afternoon have caused heavy downpours especially in the North Zone, North Pacific and Central Valley with maximum accumulated between 30-80 mm.

Forecast: During the first part of the night period, rainfall of variable intensity and isolated showers with an electrical storm will continue in the North Zone, North Pacific and to a lesser extent towards the Central Valley, amounts between 40-70 mm are estimated. In the Central and South Pacific, as well as in mountainous sectors of the Caribbean, isolated rains are expected, amounts between 10-40 mm.

The atmospheric conditions will remain unstable and very humid this coming Thursday, a situation that fosters an optimal environment for the presence of cloud cover and rain. Rainfall can manifest from dawn in the Caribbean and North Zone regions, towards the afternoon the strongest rainy activity will occur in the Pacific and Central Valley regions. The incursion of tropical wave # 14 in the course of the afternoon is estimated, which can reinforce rainfall in the country.

Warning: Important saturation levels are registered in the North Zone due to the rains of the last hours, special attention.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to increased flow in rivers and streams, especially in the North Zone.
  • Take refuge in a safe place if you hear a thunderstorm or feel strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
