Weather Warning

Strong rain and electric activity on this day -Update-

October 01, 2020
03:40 p.m.

Diagnosis: The Intertropical Convergence Zone remains very active and together with the morning warming and the entry of sea breezes have generated in the first part of this afternoon strong rainy and electrical activity in the North and South Pacific, to a lesser extent towards the Central Valley, causing accumulations of 30 mm in the last two hours and maximum of 60 mm in 6 hours.

Forecast: In the remainder of the afternoon, rains of variable intensity and downpours with electrical storms are expected in the Pacific regions (the strongest in the north and south), Central Valley and North Zone, amounts between 30-60 mm are estimated , larger accumulated are possible in a localized manner. On the other hand, isolated rains with storms are expected in the Caribbean mountains, estimated amounts between 20-40 mm.

During the first hours of the night the rains will continue, especially in coastal areas of the Pacific, amounts between 25-50 mm.

Warning: Special attention due to the high percentage of soil saturation in the Central and South Pacific, Nicoya Peninsula and North Zone.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
• Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
