Cold surge # 4 causes rains in the Caribbean and North Zone

Discussion: Cold surge # 4 has reached the northern Caribbean Sea this day; Its effects are beginning to be perceived over the country causing cloudiness and rains between weak and moderate in the North Zone and the Caribbean with accumulated between 10-30 mm in the last 6 hours; In addition, moderate gusts of wind are recorded in the Central Valley and North Pacific with speeds between 30-60 km/h.

Forecast: Throughout this Tuesday the influence of the cold surge will continue; therefore, cloud cover will remain in the Caribbean and the North Zone, as well as rains of variable intensity, amounts between 20-50 mm; As the night period enters, an increase in rainfall is estimated in these regions. Part of the cloudiness -product of the dragging of the wind- will occasionally enter the Central Valley and north of Guanacaste generating weak rains and drizzles especially in mountainous sectors, with accumulated less than 20 mm. For the regions of the Central and South Pacific, isolated rains and downpours are expected during the afternoon with amounts between 20-50 mm.

The influence of cold push # 4 is expected to persist through at least Thursday.

• Warning: Special attention in the North Zone and the Caribbean since a high percentage of soil saturation remains.
• Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to flooding of rivers and streams, as well as in areas prone to landslides.
• Prevention of strong gusts of wind and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
