Weather Warning

la Rainy conditions will extend into the evening hours

December 2, 2020
5.00 p.m.

Discussion: The influence of the cold surge # 4 continues to generate rainy conditions in the North Zone and Limón province, even cloudiness and rains occasionally extend to the Central Valley, with accumulated between 10-40 mm in the last 6 hours. On the other hand, in the Central and South Pacific the entry of humidity and the warm temperatures have favored strong downpours in a localized way with amounts of up to 50 mm in the last 6 hours.

Forecast: In the rest of the afternoon and during the night rains of variable intensity will continue in the Caribbean and the North Zone, amounts between 20-60 mm are estimated. For the Central Valley and north of Guanacaste, weak rains are expected, especially in mountainous areas, with accumulated less than 20 mm. In the Central and South Pacific regions isolated rains and downpours are expected until the early hours of the night, amounts between 20-50 mm.

The influence of the cold surge will gradually diminish towards Thursday, as it moves towards the Atlantic Ocean.

Warning: Special attention in the North Zone, the Caribbean and the South Pacific as a high percentage of soil saturation remains.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to flooding of rivers and streams, as well as in areas prone to landslides.
  • Prevention of gusts of wind and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
