Weather Warning

Rains on this day in the Caribbean and North Zone

December 2, 2020
11:00 a.m.

Discussion: On this Wednesday the effects of the cold push # 4 on the country continue, a situation that has caused cloudy conditions and intermittent rains in the North Zone and Limón province with accumulated less than 20 mm in the last 3 hours. In addition, moderate winds are perceived in the Central Valley and North Pacific with maximum speeds between 40-65 km/h.

Forecast: On this day, cloud cover will remain in the Caribbean and the North Zone, with rains between weak and moderate, amounts between 20-50 mm; as the night period enters, an increase in rainfall is estimated in these regions. Part of the cloud cover will enter the Central Valley and north of Guanacaste, generating weak rains and drizzles, especially in mountainous areas, with accumulations of less than 10 mm. The thermal sensation will prevail cool in the east of the Metropolitan Area (San José, Cartago and surroundings).

In the Central and South Pacific, local factors such as humidity and warm temperatures will favor isolated rains and downpours during the afternoon and early evening with amounts between 20-50 mm.

The influence of the cold push will gradually diminish towards Thursday.

Warning: Special attention in the North Zone and the Caribbean since a high percentage of soil saturation remains.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to flooding of rivers and streams, as well as in areas prone to landslides.
  • Prevention of gusts of wind and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
