Aviso Meteorológico

Heavy evening rainfall in most parts of the country

June 03, 2020
0900 a.m.

Diagnosis: the conditions of weak trade winds, high temperatures, high humidity and the present atmospheric instability are factors that favor intense rainfall during the afternoon.

Forecast: during the afternoon there will be strong rainy conditions with downpours and storms in the Pacific, Central Valley and mountainous regions of the country, amounts between 40-80 mm are estimated in the Pacific, amounts between 15-40 mm in the Central Valley. On the other hand, in the North Zone and mountains of the Caribbean, showers and showers are expected with an electrical storm, with accumulations between 25-70 mm.

The rains will continue during the first hours of the night, mainly in the Pacific regions and to a lesser extent in the mountains of the central mountain range. There is a high probability of fog banks in the Metropolitan Area and mountainous sectors during the night period.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

Caution in areas with vulnerability to floods, even more so in sectors with recent rainy activity.
Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
