Weather Warning (Update)

Favorable conditions for heavy downpours this Tuesday

03 de junio de 2025
06.10 p.m.

Discussion: Favorable atmospheric conditions for heavy rainfall are being recorded across the country this Tuesday. The high humidity from the recent rains and the high temperatures experienced this morning have generated heavy rain and thunderstorms this afternoon in the Northern Zone, with accumulated rainfall between 20 mm and 41 mm. This afternoon, rainfall has also been observed in the Pacific region, particularly in the northern region with maximums of 57 mm and in the central region with amounts of up to 65 mm. Furthermore, the western Central Valley has seen maximum rainfall of 38 mm.

Forecast: Showers and thunderstorms persist throughout the night in the North Pacific and the Central and South Pacific coasts. Additionally, rain and thunderstorms continue in Sarapiquí and surrounding areas, as well as in the mountains of the Northern Caribbean. Rainfall in the aforementioned locations will continue through the first part of the night. Rainfall amounts between 30 and 60 mm are estimated over six-hour periods. Fog banks are possible in the GAM and mountainous areas.

Warning: The presence of a strong thunderstorm and heavy rains in these regions could cause streams and sewers to overflow in urban areas.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Precaution due to sewer saturation in areas prone to this type of flooding.
  • Precaution for thunderstorm prevention and seeking shelter in a safe place if strong gusts of wind occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among other things. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
