Weather Warning

Tropical wave # 15 this Friday in Costa Rica

July 3, 2020
10.30 a.m.

Diagnosis: Tropical wave # 15 will be crossing Costa Rica this Friday. It will be generating moderate rainfall and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening in the country.

Forecast: Showers with thunderstorms are expected in the regions of both the Central Pacific and the South Pacific, as well as the Northern Zone, with estimates between 30-40mm and maximums of 90mm.

In the Central Valley and the North Caribbean, there are probabilities of isolated showers with thunderstorms in the region, with estimated amounts of 15-20mm and maximums of 30mm in short periods of time.

In the North Pacific, the rains will be dispersed in the region, concentrated in the Cordillera and the Nicoya Peninsula, with estimated amounts between 10-20 mm in the mountains; and between 30-40 mm near the coast.

Warning: Due to the significant saturation levels recorded by the rains of the last hours in the North Zone and South Pacific.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to increased flow in rivers and streams, especially in the North, Pacific and Central Valley.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
