Weather Warning

05 de octubre de 2020
10.30 a.m.

Discussion: Tropical storm Delta is located in the Caribbean Sea, 215 km south of Negril Jamaica. The position of this system is generating greater proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone to Costa Rica. The above, together with the warm morning temperatures, can cause rainy activity of variable intensity this afternoon and evening.

Forecast: For this afternoon and night rains of variable intensity and electrical storms are forecast in regions of the Pacific, Central Valley, North Zone and mountainous sectors of the Caribbean, amounts between 30-60 mm are estimated, higher accumulated are possible in a specific way.

The tropical storm Delta will be causing an indirect influence which will persist at least until Wednesday inclusive, a situation that would favor a greater recurrence of rainfall, especially in the Pacific (particularly the northern part).

Warning: Due to the rains of the last days there is an abundant level of soil saturation, special attention to the North and South Pacific regions, the North Zone (Sarapiquí, Upala, mountainous areas adjacent to the Guanacaste Mountain Range).

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
  • Caution on the main national highways due to reduced visibility.
  • Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
