Weather Warning
Heavy rain and electric activity this afternoon
June 07, 2020
10.35 a.m.
Discussion: The entrance of humidity coming from the maritime sectors in combination with the warm temperatures that are registered this morning, will cause during the afternoon clouds of great vertical development, which generate heavy downpours and intense electrical storm in different parts of the national territory.
Forecast: During the afternoon, heavy rains and showers with an electrical storm are expected in the Central Valley, the Northern Zone, Pacific regions, as well as in the mountainous sectors of the Caribbean; they are estimated accumulated between 30-60 mm, larger amounts are possible locally.
The rains will continue during the first hours of the night, mainly in the Pacific regions, with accumulated between 10-40 mm. There is a high probability of fog banks in the Metropolitan Area and mountainous sectors during the night period.
Warning: High levels of saturation due to the rains of the last days, particular attention in mountainous sectors of the North Zone and the Caribbean, North Pacific, mountains of the Central and South Pacific.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas with vulnerability to floods, even more so in sectors with recent rainy activity.
- Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
