Weather Warning

Heavy downpours this afternoon in the Central and South Pacific - Tropical Wave Arrival # 17 Tuesday night

July 07, 2020
02.40 p.m.

Discussion: Local factors such as the warm temperatures recorded in the morning period and the entry of the sea breeze have led to cloudy developments in the early hours of this afternoon and the presence of isolated showers with thunderstorms in the Central and South Pacific, with amounts between 10-20 mm.

Forecast: This afternoon and during the first hours of the night there will be isolated but heavy rains and showers accompanied by an electrical storm in the Central and South Pacific regions, amounts between 30-60 mm are estimated. In the rest of the country no significant rains are expected.

The incursion of tropical wave # 17 during the night of this day towards the early hours of Wednesday is estimated, which can generate a gradual increase in cloudiness and moderate rains in the North Zone, Caribbean, as well as in the South Pacific and Central, accumulated estimates between 25-50 mm.

Warning: Special attention in the Central Pacific due to high levels of saturation due to yesterday's rains

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to increased flow in rivers and streams.
  • Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
