Weather Warning

Tropical wave # 35 over Costa Rica this Monday

September 7, 2020
11:00 a.m.

Diagnosis: Tropical wave # 35 is located over the country, destabilizing the atmosphere, in addition the Intertropical Convergence Zone remains over Costa Rica, providing a constant flow of humidity from morning hours, these factors together will generate rainfall this afternoon and night.

Forecast: It is expected that the most intense rains would be recorded for hours in the afternoon on the Pacific slope, presenting downpours with an electrical storm, in addition to the Central Valley rains of variable intensity are anticipated with a more localized electrical storm. For the night period, it is anticipated that the rains will continue in the Pacific regions and for the Central Valley they will occur in a more intermittent way accompanied by fog banks. The estimated amounts are between 25-50mm and highs of 75-80mm this day.

For the North Zone and mountains of the Caribbean, rains of a more localized nature are expected for hours in the afternoon.

The influence of this tropical wave # 35 is projected to only be for this day.

Warning: Be very cautious for the Central Valley, the Pacific regions, in particular mountains and Route 27, because they are the regions where strong storms are expected and maintain a high degree of saturation and potential for landslides.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  •  Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
  •     Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
  •     Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
