Weather Warning

Tropical wave # 17 causes rain this Wednesday

July 8, 2020
9.00 a.m.

Diagnosis: Tropical wave # 17 crosses the country causing light to moderate intensity rains in the Caribbean, Northern Zone and Central Valley regions. At this time, the highest accumulated rainfall has not exceeded 10mm in the last 6 hours.

Forecast: The rains will be present throughout the day in the national territory. The instability caused by the wave will generate rainfall of variable intensity during the morning in the North Zone and the North Caribbean, the strongest being near the border sector with estimated amounts between 10-20mm. In the Central Valley, in the next few hours there will be occasional and light intensity rains in the northern and eastern sectors of the region.

In the afternoon, the most intense rains will be concentrated in the Central Pacific and South Pacific regions, with estimated amounts between 15-30mm and maximums of up to 80mm in a timely manner. Part of these rains will reach the west of the Central Valley and around the Gulf of Nicoya; with estimated amounts between 10-20mm and maximums of 25-30mm in a timely manner.

Note that, for tomorrow, Thursday, the arrival of tropical wave # 18 is expected; therefore, rainy weather in the country is expected to continue this day.

Warning: Special attention in the North Zone and the North Caribbean, mainly in the mountainous sector in the afternoon. In addition to the Central Pacific and the South Pacific due to the probable afternoon rains.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to increased flow in rivers and streams.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
