Weather Warning
Downpours and thunderstorm this afternoon
September 08, 2020
10.45 a.m.
Discussion: The Intertropical Convergence Zone remains close to the country, which, added to local factors such as warm morning temperatures and the entry of sea breezes, will favor cloudy developments and the presence of rainy and electrical activity during the afternoon and early morning hours. night.
Forecast: During this afternoon rains of variable intensity and heavy downpours with an electrical storm are expected in regions of the Pacific, the Central Valley and the North Zone, they are estimated accumulated between 30-60 mm, possible higher amounts in a localized way. On the other hand, in the mountains of the Caribbean, isolated rains and showers will appear with amounts between 20-40 mm.
It is estimated that the precipitations extend to the first hours of the night in the Pacific and North Zone, to a lesser extent towards the Central Valley, accumulated between 10-30 mm.
Warning: High levels of soil saturation prevail in the North Zone, the Nicoya Peninsula and the South Pacific; therefore, particular attention is recommended.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
- Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
