Weather Warning
Heavy downpours and thunderstorm will continue this afternoon
September 8, 2020
02:30 p.m.
Diagnosis: The proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone generates an important contribution of instability, which, together with local factors such as warm morning temperatures and the entry of sea breezes, have generated important cloud developments, promoting strong rain and electrical activity in the Central Valley. North and South Pacific, as well as in the North Zone; those accumulated are between 10-35 mm in the last 2 hours.
Forecast: In the remainder of the afternoon, rains of variable intensity and heavy downpours with electrical storms will continue in regions of the Pacific, the Central Valley and the North Zone, estimated accumulated between 30-60 mm, possibly higher amounts locally. On the other hand, in the mountains of the Caribbean, isolated rains and showers will appear with amounts between 20-40 mm.
The precipitations will extend to the first hours of the night in the Pacific and North Zone, to a lesser extent towards the Central Valley, accumulated between 10-30 mm.
Tropical wave # 36 is followed, it advances over eastern Colombia, according to the latest analysis it is estimated that it can arrive in Costa Rica between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Warning: High levels of soil saturation prevail in the North Zone, the Nicoya Peninsula and the South Pacific; therefore, particular attention is recommended.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
