Weather Warning

Tropical wave # 36 will cross Costa Rica tonight

September 09, 2020
5 p.m.

Diagnosis: Tropical wave # 36 is located at the beginning of the night near the border between Costa Rica / Panama; therefore, she will be crossing the country in the course of tonight. The instability generated by this wave would be reinforcing the rains mainly at night in the regions of the Central Pacific and the South Pacific. Until this time, the accumulated amounts in these regions vary between 10-20mm and maximums of 50mm in the canton of Corridors.

Forecast: Tonight, moderate to strong rains are forecast, with estimated amounts between 10-20mm and maximum estimated between 30-40mm on a specific basis.

In the North Pacific, scattered showers will continue over the Nicoya Peninsula later this afternoon, with maximums of up to 30mm in the next 6 hours.

Both in the Central Valley and the North Zone, as there could be scattered showers with electrical storms, with amounts that do not exceed 10mm.

No significant rains are expected in the Caribbean regions during this period.

Warning: Caution near the coast of the Central Pacific and the South Pacific, mainly in the cantons of Osa, Golfito and Corredores in the next few hours.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
