Weather Warning
Heavy rainfall this afternoon in Costa Rica
June 11, 2020
10.30 a.m.
Diagnosis: This Thursday the Intertropical Convergence Zone is approaching Costa Rica, generating greater atmospheric instability and providing humidity from the maritime sectors, which, added to local factors such as high temperatures, are conditions that favor moderate to heavy rainfall. with electrical storm in the national territory.
Forecast: For this afternoon, isolated showers with an electrical storm are expected mainly in the Central Valley (mainly central and eastern sectors of the region), the North Zone and the Caribbean; decreasing in intensity in the early hours of the night. Precipitations of moderate intensity are estimated with estimated amounts between 20-40mm and maximums of 75mm in a timely manner.
In the Pacific Slope the most important rains will be concentrated in the surroundings both in the Gulf of Nicoya and in the Golfo Dulce and mountains of the Central Pacific. In these places amounts between 20-30mm and maximums of 60mm are estimated in this period.
Warning: Special attention in places near the mountains of the North Zone and the Caribbean, in addition to the center and east of the Central Valley.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution in areas with vulnerability to floods, even more so in sectors with recent rainy activity.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
