Weather Warning

Downpours and thunderstorm this Thursday

September 10, 2020
10.55 am

Diagnosis: The Intertropical Convergence Zone remains close to the country, which, added to local factors, such as warm morning temperatures, the entry of sea breezes and disturbances in the upper atmosphere, will favor strong and isolated rainy activity this Thursday.

Forecast: During this afternoon, rains of variable intensity and isolated strong showers with electrical storms and strong winds are expected in regions of the Pacific, the Central Valley and mountains of the North Zone, they are estimated to accumulate between 30-65 mm, possible amounts higher than located. On the other hand, in the mountains of the Caribbean there are scattered rains with amounts between 5-10 mm.

Precipitation is estimated to extend into the early hours of the night in the coastal Pacific, especially in the Central and South Pacific coast, accumulating between 10-50 mm.

Warning: High levels of soil saturation prevail in the North Zone, northwest of the Central Valley, the Nicoya Peninsula and the South Pacific; therefore, special attention is recommended.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
