Weather Warning
Rains and downpours persist tonight
November 10, 2020
5.55 p.m.
Discussion: The position of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) towards the north of Costa Rica is causing an abundant flow of humidity on the Pacific slope and the center of the country, which causes heavy storm showers in several sectors of the country.
In the last 12 hours there have been accumulated accumulations of 50 mm in Sarapiquí, 135 mm in Sardinal, 130 mm in Carrillo Guanacaste, 82 mm in Liberia, 80 mm in Hojancha, 70 mm Orosi volcano, 85 mm in Río Nuevo de PZ, 66 mm in Golfito, 50 mm in Coto Brus, 100 mm in Laguna de Fraijanes, 70 mm in Guápiles, to mention the largest amounts.
Forecast: For tonight, intermittent rains of variable intensity and heavy downpours with thunderstorms and fog will continue in Pacific regions, Northern Zone and mountainous sectors of the Caribbean, estimates are between 30-80 mm, accumulated amounts greater than 100 mm are possible in a timely manner. The Central Valley will be cloudy with mist, intermittent rains with isolated storm until late at night, amounts between 10-80 mm.
Warning: Due to the rains in recent days there is an abundant level of soil saturation, special attention to the North and South Pacific regions, Garabito sector in the Central Pacific, the North Zone (Sarapiquí, Upala, mountainous areas adjacent to the Cordillera de Guanacaste), as well as the southern Caribbean mountain ranges and mountains of the southern Central Valley.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
- Caution on the main national highways due to reduced visibility.
- Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
