Weather Warning

Strong winds persist this Saturday

January 11, 2020
10.30 a.m.

Diagnosis: A reinforced high pressure system located in the Atlantic Ocean maintains high atmospheric pressure values ??in the Caribbean Sea, which in turn generates strong winds in the Central American region. In the country the gusts continue strong, with speeds between 60-106 km/h in the Cordilleras of the country, while in the Metropolitan Area and the lower parts of the North Pacific there have been maximums between 30-70 km/h.

Forecast: The pattern of strong trade winds with occasional gusts is expected to continue this Saturday with maximum speeds between 50-100 km/h in the Cordilleras of the country, while in the lower parts of the Central Valley and the North Pacific They estimate maximums between 30-70 km/h.

Also, the mass of dry air persists over the region, which will continue to cause low to partial cloudiness and therefore little rainfall throughout the country, with the exception of some mountainous sectors of the country where there will be weak rains.

As for the temperatures, these will be very hot on the coasts and plains throughout the day, while during the nights quite cold conditions are estimated in the mountainous parts of the country in general and in the Metropolitan Area.

Weather conditions will continue extremely windy over the country at least until next Sunday.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Extreme precautions due to strong winds and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
  • Caution for boats by choppy sea and very strong waves in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya, Central Pacific and the Caribbean Sea, as well as air navigation due to turbulence over the mountainous sectors.
  • Avoid burning of all kinds as they can get out of control.
