Weather Warning
August 11, 2020
04.00 p.m.
Discussion: The Intertropical Convergence Zone is very active and close to the country, which is generating nuclei of cloudiness near the coasts and constantly entering mainly into the national territory, generating rains in the Caribbean, North Zone, as well as in mountainous sectors of the Central and South Pacific. Maximum accumulated between 25-50 mm are registered in the last 8 hours.
Forecast: In the remainder of the afternoon and during the first hours of the night, the rainy conditions will continue in the Caribbean and the North Zone, the precipitations may be accompanied by a thunderstorm are estimated accumulated between 25-50 mm, possible higher amounts in a localized way.
On the other hand, in the Central and South Pacific, rains and stormy showers are expected, accumulated between 20-50 mm, in the periods mentioned above; while in the Central Valley and the North Pacific, scattered rains are possible, with greater emphasis on the mountains, amounts of 10-20 mm.
Warning: Special attention in the North Zone due to soils saturated by rains of the last hours.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
- Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
