Weather Warning

Rainy activity on this Tuesday

August 11, 2020
10.45 a.m.

Discussion: The Intertropical Convergence Zone is very active and close to the country, which is generating nuclei of cloudiness near the coasts and mainly entering the province of Limón.

Forecast: In the remainder of the morning, mostly cloudy conditions will prevail in much of the national territory; rains of variable intensity are estimated in the North Caribbean and North Zone, accumulated between 20-40 mm; the precipitations can even extend towards the South Caribbean.
During the afternoon the heaviest rains will be concentrated in the regions of the Central and South Pacific, Nicoya Peninsula, they will be accompanied by an electrical storm; Amounts between 30-60 mm are foreseen, possibly higher accumulated locally. In the North Zone, the Central Valley and mountains of the Caribbean, isolated rains and showers are expected, amounts estimated between 10-40 mm. The rains will continue until early at night in the Pacific and to a lesser extent in the Central Valley and North Zone.

Warning: The North Zone maintains high levels of saturation due to yesterday's rains, so attention to this region is recommended.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
  • Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
