Weather Warning
Heavy downpours in the Central and South Pacific
May 12, 2020
03.00 p.m.
Discussion: Local factors such as the high temperatures recorded this morning and the entry of humidity from the Pacific, are promoting this Tuesday afternoon important cloudy developments and heavy showers with thunderstorms in the South Pacific, with accumulated in the last two hours between 50-90 mm.
Forecast: In the remainder of the afternoon and during the first hours of the night, the heavy rainy and electrical activity will continue in the South Pacific, at the same time it will spread to the Central Pacific and even to the south of the Nicoya Peninsula, amounts are estimated between 40-70 mm. In the rest of the country, the possibility of rain is low; however, if it does occur, it will be in the mountainous parts in the form of light rain, with amounts less than 10 mm.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
- Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
