Weather Warning

Tropical wave # 19 will continue generating rains in the country

July 12, 2020
02.30 p.m.

Discussion: Tropical wave # 19 crosses the north of the country, the instability that it causes in its path has generated rains in the northern border sector during the morning. At this time, it maintains isolated showers and showers with an electrical storm in the Nicoya Peninsula, the South Pacific, the Caribbean mountains and the North Zone, with accumulations between 10-40 mm.

Forecast: During the afternoon and early evening, showers and showers with isolated thunderstorms are expected in the Central Pacific and South Pacific regions, Nicoya Peninsula, in addition to mountainous sectors of the Caribbean and the Northern Zone with accumulated between 20 -50 mm and maximums of up to 60 mm on time. Isolated rains and showers are estimated in the Central Valley; with amounts between 10-30 mm.

Warning: Special attention in the North Zone, South Pacific and mountains of the Caribbean, since they show important levels of soil saturation.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to increased flow in rivers and streams.
  • Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
