Weather Warning
Tropical wave # 19 causes rains in the north of the country
July 12, 2020
10.30 a.m.
Discussion: Tropical wave # 19 crosses the north of the country, at the same time causing cloudy conditions in the center and north of the national territory, as well as rainfall of variable intensity in the northern border sector, with accumulated between 5-20 mm.
Forecast: In the course of the morning, the rains of variable intensity will continue, spreading over nearby cantons of the northern border of the country. In the rest of the country, cloud cover is expected to vary between partial and total.
In the afternoon and early evening, the heaviest rains will be concentrated in the Central Pacific and South Pacific regions, with accumulated between 20-50mm and maximums of up to 60mm in a timely manner. Part of these rains will reach the west of the Central Valley and around the Gulf of Nicoya; with estimated amounts between 10-30 mm. In the North Zone and mountains of the Caribbean isolated showers are possible, accumulated between 5-20 mm.
Warning: Special attention in the North Zone, South Pacific and mountains of the Caribbean, since they show important levels of soil saturation.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to increased flow in rivers and streams.
- Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
