Weather Warning

Tropical wave #8 will favor heavy rains especially in the pacific

June 13, 2023.
10.15 a.m.

Discussion: The arrival of tropical wave # 8 in the country will favor an unstable atmospheric pattern, which added to local factors such as morning warming and the entry of sea breezes, will foster an ideal environment for the occurrence of rains of variable intensity and electrical storm.

Forecast: This afternoon the strongest rainy and electrical activity is expected to develop in the Pacific regions. Also, in said afternoon period towards the Central Valley, Northern Zone and mountainous Caribbean, scattered moderate rains and electrical storm are forecast; while in coastal sectors of the province of Limón occasional rains are possible. Rainfall will extend late into the night, especially in the Pacific. Estimated accumulated between 30-80 mm in periods of 6 hours, higher amounts are possible in a timely manner.

Warning: Be alert to possible flash floods and landslides in areas with high vulnerability to this type of event.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution due to sewage saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
  • Prevention against electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in case of appearing or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
