Weather Warning (Update)
Rains of varying intensity during the afternoon
November 14, 2023
4.40 pm
Diagnosis: Local factors such as diurnal warming, high humidity content and entry of sea breezes favor unstable atmospheric conditions. This afternoon, heavy downpours with storms have been recorded in several sectors of the country, among the strongest are Cartago, Rancho Redondo (Goicoechea), Paraíso, Cañas and Bagaces, as well as the hill of La Muerte and Montecarlo de Pérez Zeledón. Amounts between 20 mm to 60 mm in the last 3 hours.
Forecast: For the remainder of the afternoon, localized but strong downpours with storms are expected to develop in the Northern Zone and Guanacaste, as well as around the Gulf and Peninsula of Nicoya. Mountains and plains of the Caribbean, Western Central Valley, Central and South Pacific. Punctual accumulations for the 12-hour period will be between 10 – 40 mm with maximums located between 50 – 70 mm (higher probability towards the North Zone). In addition, for the night period, fog banks are expected in mountainous sectors of the country and rains in the first hours in the Northern Zone and mountains of the Northern Caribbean.
Warning: Soil saturation continues with high percentages in the North Zone, North Caribbean and South Pacific, take extreme preventive measures.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution due to sewage saturation and possible flash floods, as well as the main routes of the country in the event of heavy rain events
. • Prevention against electrical storms and seeking shelter in a safe place in case strong gusts of wind occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
