Weather Warning
Showers and thunderstorms this afternoon in the Northern Zone
July 15, 2020
02.40 p.m.
Discussion: Instability in the upper atmosphere added to local factors, such as the entrance of humidity from the maritime sectors and the warm morning temperatures, are promoting cloudy developments and the presence of isolated but strong downpours with thunderstorms in the North Zone, west of the Central Valley and North Pacific. In the last 2 hours the maximum accumulated are around 20-45 mm in these regions.
Forecast: In the course of the afternoon, there will be isolated rains and showers between moderate and strong intensity, accompanied by an electrical storm in the North Zone and North Pacific, they are estimated to accumulate between 25-50 mm. On the other hand, in the Central Valley and the Central Pacific, isolated rains and showers are expected with amounts between 10-40 mm; while in the mountains of the Caribbean and South Pacific the rains will be scattered manifesting towards late afternoon, accumulated between 10-20 mm.
During the first hours of the night, isolated rains and showers are expected along the Pacific coast and the North Zone.
Warning: Special attention in the North Zone since they show considerable levels of soil saturation.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to increased flow in rivers and streams.
- Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
