Rains and storms in the Pacific will continue into the night

Diagnosis: unstable conditions are present in the atmosphere over Costa Rica, the influence of the Intertropical convergence zone, as well as the entry of humidity from maritime sectors, favored deep convection processes that generated large storm clouds over the Pacific and part of the Central Valley . With cut-off at 4:00 pm, the maximum accumulations are between 30-80 mm in the Central and South Pacific and between 60-112 mm in the North Pacific. On the other hand, the west of the Central Valley and the North Zone register amounts between 20-45 mm, while in the Caribbean the rains have been scarce and with maximums between 3-6 mm.

Forecast: In the remainder of the afternoon and early evening, rainy activity with downpours will continue on the Pacific slope, with greater intensity in the Guanacaste area. The maximum amounts are estimated between 40-60 mm in a 6 hour period.

For the North Zone and the west-north of the Central Valley, rainfall is expected for the remainder of the afternoon with a tendency to decrease towards the beginning of the night. The maximum amounts are estimated between 20-35 mm
In the rest of the country the rains will be intermittent and focused especially in the vicinity of the high areas. The accumulated are forecast between 5-15 mm.

Warning: Special attention in the mountainous areas of the North Zone and the South Pacific, in addition to the Nicoya and Osa peninsulas and the Guanacaste Zone in General, since these regions present the highest levels of soil saturation.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
