Weather Warning
Intertropical Convergence Zone will favor the rains this afternoon
July 20, 2024
10:30 a.m.
Diagnosis: The analysis shows the location of the Intertropical Convergence Zone over our country, already present with instability in maritime areas near the Costa Rican Pacific. On the other hand, temperatures are rising locally and humid breezes will be confirmed during the morning.
Forecast: It is estimated that the main rains will occur on Saturday afternoon, with the presence of showers accompanied by thunderstorms in: the central-west of the Central Valley and the Northern Zone, in the Central Pacific, as well as towards the center of the Northern Pacific and around the Gulf of Nicoya. The estimated accumulations would be between 20 - 40 mm with maximum points between 60 - 80 mm in periods of 12 hours. In the case of the mountains of the South Pacific and the Caribbean, scattered showers and localized showers with possible storms are estimated, with accumulations between 10 - 40 mm with maximum points of 60 mm.
During the night, rains may extend to coastal areas of the Pacific and the mountains of the Northern Zone.
Warning: Despite having less instability compared to yesterday due to the passage of the wave, rains may be of strong intensity in a localized manner and over recurrent areas.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution due to saturation of sewers in places prone to this type of flooding.
• Prevention against electrical storms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of occurrence or perception of strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, electrical lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
