Weather Warning

Rainy conditions will be present during the afternoon and evening

May 21, 2020
0900 am

Diagnosis: the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, the weakness of the trade winds are factors that favor evening rains.

Forecast: during the afternoon and night there will be intermittent rains and showers with possible isolated thunderstorms on the Pacific and Central Valley slopes, as well as in the mountainous sectors of the Caribbean and the Northern Zone. The amounts of rain estimated in the Pacific will be between 15-70 mm in 12-hour periods, in the Caribbean and the North Zone the amounts will be between 10-60 mm and in the Central Valley amounts between 5-35 mm are expected in periods of 3 hours.

The coastal Caribbean and surrounding areas will have very little rainfall in most of the region. It is estimated that rainfall can extend until the early hours of the night in the Pacific and mountainous areas of the country.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation, increased flow in rivers and streams, and in areas prone to landslides.
Prevention on national routes such as: route 1, route 10, route 27, route 21, route 32, route 34, route 141 and route 126.
Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
