Weather Warning Update

The Intertropical Convergence Zone over Costa Rica is maintained

July 22, 2022
5.30 pm

Diagnosis: This Friday the Intertropical Convergence Zone remains over Costa Rica, favoring mostly cloudy skies, a humid environment and unstable atmospheric conditions this afternoon in the north of the country. So far, we have the most intense downpours with storm and strong wind events taking place in the mountains of the Caribbean, North Zone and Guanacaste. The highest amounts of rainfall by region are as follows: North Zone 65 mm in La Rebusca, North Pacific 47 mm in Santa Cruz, Central Valley 39 mm in La Garita, Caribbean 55 mm in Juan Viñas, Central and South Pacific 34 mm in Coto Brus.

Forecast: During the first hours of the night there will be moderate to strong rains accompanied by an electrical storm along the North Pacific Slope and in the North Zone, as well as in the border area of ??the South Pacific, amounts of rain between 30 mm and 80 mm in periods of 6 hours. In the Central Valley, mountains of the Caribbean and Central Pacific, the sky is estimated to be partially cloudy with occasional rains, accumulated rainfall between 15 mm and 30 mm with maximums of 60 mm.

Warning: Special attention in the Pacific because they are the vulnerable regions after the recent heavy rains.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends: • Caution due to sewage saturation and possible sudden flooding. • Prevention before an electrical storm and seek shelter in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind appearing or being perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. • Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: National Meteorological Institute CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
