Aviso Meteorológico (Actualización)
Passage of Tropical Wave #30, Precipitation will continue variable during the night
August 22, 2023
5:30 pm
Diagnosis: Unstable atmospheric conditions enhanced by the passage of the OT #30 generated variable rainy activity during this Tuesday afternoon. The largest accumulated so far are registered in the North Pacific, North Zone and mountainous sectors of the Caribbean with maximum amounts between 50-70 mm. In the rest of the country rainfall is around 10-35 mm.
Forecast: The analysis of radar and satellite images show active convective nuclei mainly in the north of the country, around the border with Panama and maritime sectors of the Caribbean. For the remainder of the afternoon and throughout the night period, variable rainy activity is expected to continue, with scattered downpours and storms concentrating in the first part of the night in Guanacaste (especially in the surroundings of Golf de Nicoya and the Tempisque Valley). , Northern Zone (particularly border areas), mountains of the North Caribbean and more isolated in the South Pacific and mountains of the South Caribbean. Estimated maximum amounts between 25-50 mm in periods of 6 hours. As the period progresses, cloudiness over the sea is expected to enter land, generating scattered rains in coastal areas of the Caribbean. In the rest of the country, mostly cloudy skies with occasional rains are forecast. In the district of Aguas Zarcas, rains of variable intensity are expected, mainly during the first hours of the night, amounts between 25-50 mm.
For this Wednesday, a strengthening of the Intertropical Convergence Zone is expected, so the rainy conditions will continue. In particular, the numerical models show significant accumulations (100-150 mm) in a 24-hour period for the Pacific regions, so special attention is recommended in these areas.Warning: Caution is recommended on unstable slopes, sectors with high vulnerability to landslides and increased flow in streams and rivers, due to rainfall of variable intensity. Special attention to the mountains of Aguas Zarcas in the North Zone.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends: Caution due to sewage saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
Prevention against electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in case of appearing or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. these gusts can reach between 80 to 100 km/h in some isolated cases.
