Weather Warning
Downpours and storm this Friday
October 23, 2020
11.00 a.m.
Diagnosis: The high temperatures that have been registered this morning, added to the flow of humidity from the Pacific and the activity of the Convergence Zone, creates conditions for the formation of highly developed clouds and thus increases the probability of heavy rains and storms this late.
Forecast: For this afternoon and first hours of the night, the regions of the North Pacific, Central Valley, North Zone and mountainous parts of the Caribbean present a high probability of showers with thunderstorms.
In particular, the Nicoya peninsula, the plains in the North Zone, the east and south of the Central Valley, and the mountainous parts of the Central and South Pacific are the areas where the strongest activity is expected to occur. The maximum amounts estimate between 40-85 mm.
In the case of the coastal Caribbean, it is expected to be very stable, with a partially cloudy sky and a low probability of rain.
Warning: Special attention due to the high percentage of soil saturation in the Nicoya Peninsula and Northern Zone.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
