Weather Warning

Favorable weather conditions for downpours this afternoon

May 24, 2020
12 m.

Diagnosis: This Sunday, local meteorological processes at the national level such as evaporation - product of the high percentage of humidity and warm temperatures registered - in the morning, and the contribution of atmospheric instability of the Intertropical Convergence Zone -which today is south of Costa Rica-, favors for isolated precipitations to occur, but of moderate to strong intensity this afternoon in the national territory.

Forecast: Scattered showers are expected with an electrical storm in the Central Valley (concentrated in the GAM), and in the country's mountain ranges. In addition, moderate to heavy intensity rains are expected around the Gulf of Nicoya and the valleys of the South Pacific.

For night hours, the highest probability of rain is limited to places near the coasts of the Central Pacific and the South Pacific.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
• Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
