Weather Warning
Cold surge # 8 will enter the northern Caribbean Sea tonight
December 24, 2020
10.40 am
Diagnosis: Atmospheric pressure continues to be relatively high in the region, which maintains moderate trade winds with occasional strong gusts in our country, this morning 75 km / h were recorded in La Cruz in Guanacaste and 60 km / h in the west of the Central Valley. There are no rains.
Forecast: This Thursday afternoon and night, the trade winds will continue to moderate with occasional strong gusts, the values ??registered so far will be maintained.
In the night period, the entry of cold surge# 8 to the north of the Caribbean Sea is expected, a situation that would favor the intensification of the north wind over the country for the early hours of Friday. This day a moderate increase in rainfall is expected in the Caribbean and the North Zone, amounts in 24 hours between 30 to 80mm, especially to the north of these regions; the gusts could ascend up to 80 and 100 km / h in the north of the country. It is also expected that the combined effect of cloudiness and wind will generate a decrease in the thermal sensation in the Central Valley compared to previous days of this week.
Warning: Special attention in the North Zone and the Caribbean since they are the regions where rainfall is expected this Friday and weekend. Special attention in the area of ??Guanacaste, the west of the Central Valley and the mountain ranges of the country due to the strong gusts.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to flooding of rivers and streams, as well as in areas prone to landslides. • Prevention of wind gusts and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes). • Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
