Weather Warning -Update-

Heavy thumdershowers this thursday

25 de mayo de 2023
6:30 p.m.

Diagnosis: Diagnosis: This Thursday, the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone together with local factors (morning warming, moisture ingress and instability in the upper layers of the atmosphere) favor scattered downpours accompanied by electrical storms, on the Pacific slope for the afternoon and night. The amounts registered so far range between 30 - 60mm with specific maximums of up to 70mm.

Forecast: This morning's satellite images show the Convergence Zone positioned over CR contributing moisture and instability to the Pacific. For the night, isolated downpours with storms are expected to continue in the Tempisque Valley, Liberia, Santa Cruz and the vicinity of Jacó, over the Golfo Dulce and surroundings of Osa. The estimated amounts between 10 - 40 mm in 6 hours, with maximums of 60 mm punctual in the same period. Around the early hours of this Friday, an activation of the precipitations is expected again near the coasts of the Central and South Pacific with motorcycles between 10 - 60 mm in periods of 6 hours. Fog banks will appear west of the Central Valley and Pacific mountain ranges.

Warning: Watch out for wind gusts common in local storm systems, as well as flash floods. Soils with high saturation values occur in the mountains of the South Pacific, Central Pacific and Central Volcanic Cordillera.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution for saturation of the sewerage in places prone to this type of flooding.

• Prevention before electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in case of appearing or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
