Weather Warning

Rainy activity will continue during the night

May 26, 2021
05.00 p.m.

Discussion: During this afternoon there has been strong rainy activity in regions of the Central and South Pacific, as well as in the North Caribbean and North Zone, also in regions of the Central Valley and North Pacific there have been moderate rains, the above is caused by the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone and the moderate trade wind flow in the north of the country, generating the constant entry of humidity. The maximum accumulated occur in the South Pacific with ranges between 50-72 mm in the last 5 hours.

Forecast: At the end of the afternoon and during the night, rains and downpours with a thunderstorm will continue in the Pacific, as well as in the North Zone and North Caribbean, amounts estimated between 20-60 mm, possibly higher accumulated in a localized way. Intermittent rains are expected in the Central Valley and the South Caribbean, accumulating between 10-40 mm.

During the night and towards the early hours of Thursday, rains of variable intensity are estimated towards coastal areas, especially in the Caribbean, and may extend to the North Zone.

Warning: Special attention in the Caribbean and North Zone since due to the constant rains they present saturation of soils. On the Pacific slope due to strong and localized downpours.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation and / or stream overflow.
  • Be cautious against electrical storms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind or strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
  • Prevention in areas prone to landslides.
