Weather Warning
Rainy activity during this Wednesday
May 26, 2021
11.15 a.m.
Discussion: The proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, together with the moderate trade wind flow in the north of the country, favors the constant entry of humidity, promoting cloudiness and rain throughout the day in the different regions of the country. From early hours, rains appear in the North Zone and North Caribbean, the accumulated are less than 15 mm; in the rest of the country, cloudiness between partial and total predominates with drizzles in mountainous sectors.
Forecast: For the remainder of this morning, rains will remain between weak and moderate with an isolated electrical storm in the North Zone and North Caribbean and will extend towards the south of the Caribbean, it is estimated that the rainy activity will remain intermittent in much of this day -even in the night period-, amounts of 20-60 mm, possible accumulated higher in a localized way.
For the afternoon and early evening, isolated showers with a thunderstorm are expected in the Central Pacific, the South Pacific and in a scattered manner in the Nicoya Peninsula, with accumulated between 30-60 mm. On the other hand, in the Central Valley, it will predominate mostly cloudy with rains and an isolated electrical storm mainly in the center and west of the region.
Warning: Special attention in the Caribbean and North Zone since due to the constant rains they present saturation of soils. On the Pacific slope due to strong and localized downpours.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation and / or stream overflow.
- Be cautious against electrical storms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind or strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
- Prevention in areas prone to landslides.
