Weather Warning

Rainy conditions on the Pacific Slope and North Caribbean

October 26, 2020
10:15 p.m.

Diagnosis: Unstable atmospheric conditions generated after the passage of tropical wave # 49, in addition to the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, have generated heavy downpours accompanied by an electrical storm in the Pacific and North Caribbean of the country tonight.

The most important accumulated in the last hours have been presented in Barú, with 78.2mm, Quepos with 47.8mm and Guácimo with 41.8mm.

Forecast: During the rest of the night and part of the morning, rains of variable intensity will continue, accompanied by downpours and an electrical storm located on the Pacific slope, with accumulated estimates between 15-40mm.

For the mountainous parts of the Caribbean and coastal sectors of the North Caribbean, moderate rains with a possible electrical storm are expected on a specific basis, estimating amounts between 10-20mm.

Warning: Be very cautious around the Guanacaste mountain range, North Zone and South Pacific, since these are the regions with high soil saturation.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
