Weather Warning
Again rainy afternoon in the national territory
May 27, 2020
10.30 a.m.
iagnosis: The Intertropical Convergence Zone is located off Costa Rica in the country's peaceful waters, and as has been the constant in recent days, the contribution of humidity and instability that it generates on the national territory, favors the occurrence of precipitation of variable intensity this afternoon.
Forecast: Heavy rainstorms are expected along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, during the afternoon and until the early hours of the night, being the North Pacific and the South Pacific where the greatest amounts of rain accumulate, with estimated values between 40mm and 60mm with maximums of 80mm.
In the rest of the country (Central Valley, North Zone and Caribbean regions), light to moderate rainfall is forecast, with amounts between 10 mm and 25 mm, with maximums of 40 mm on time.
In addition, the monitoring of the evolution of a low-pressure system -also part of the Intertropical Convergence Zone- has begun, which has emerged during the early morning on the waters of the Pacific, and located in the south of El Salvador and Guatemala. This system has no influence in the country at the moment.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
