Weather Warning
Tropical wave # 12 will arrive in Costa Rica this afternoon
June 27, 2020
10.30 a.m.
Diagnosis: Since yesterday, the instability present in the upper atmosphere has generated storms on both coasts of Costa Rica, causing cloudy skies and scattered rains in the early hours of the morning. In addition to this, this afternoon tropical wave # 12 will arrive in the country, reinforcing rainfall during the afternoon and early evening.
Forecast: Rainfall of variable intensity is expected during the afternoon and night in the South Pacific, and to a lesser extent in the Central Pacific, with estimated amounts between 30-40 mm and maximums between 60-80mm. In the North Pacific, the rains will be concentrated in the south of the Nicoya Peninsula.
In the plains of the North Zone and the Caribbean, isolated rains are expected with accumulated between 10-20 mm with maximums of 30mm, mainly near the border.
In the Central Valley, the rains will be scattered and of intensity between weak to moderate, with the possibility of an electrical storm in the late afternoon and during the night. Amounts between 15-30mm are estimated on a timely basis.
Regarding the dust of the Sahara, its concentration in the environment has decreased considerably, due to the rains of the last hours.
Warning: Special attention in the Central Pacific and South Pacific regions throughout the day, in the Northern Zone and mountains of the Caribbean at night.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
• Attention on the main national highways, such as route 27 and route 32.
