Weather Warning

Rainfall will be maintained in the early hours of the night

July 27, 2020
05.50 p.m.

Discussion: The proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, the warm morning temperatures and the entry of sea breezes have generated strong rainy and electrical activity throughout this afternoon, mainly in the Pacific and Central Valley. The highest accumulations are recorded in the North Pacific with maxima between 15-30 mm, in the Central Valley they range between 30-65 mm.

Forecast: In the first part of the night period, moderate to heavy rains will continue with a thunderstorm in the Central Valley and North Pacific with amounts between 25-50 mm, while in the Central and South Pacific, as well as in the North Zone and mountains. Scattered showers and showers are expected in the Caribbean, accumulated between 15-30 mm. It is estimated that the rains tend to decrease gradually late at night.

The arrival of tropical wave # 23 is expected in the early hours of this Tuesday, which can generate a reinforcement in rainy activity, mainly in the evening and night periods. During the morning cloudiness and possible rains are expected in the Caribbean and the North Zone. In the afternoon, heavy rains and showers are expected in the Pacific and Central Valley regions.

Warning: Considerable soil saturation due to recent rains in the North Pacific and Central Valley, special attention in these sectors.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to increased flow in rivers and streams.
  • Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
