Weather Warning Update
Rainy and electric activity this afternoon in the Central and South Pacific
September 28, 2020
3:10 p.m.
Diagnosis: The gradual increase in temperatures during the morning period, together with the entry of humidity and little cloudiness, have favored the development of cloudiness and the occurrence of downpours and electrical storms over the country this afternoon.
So far accumulated between 5-17mm have been registered in the North Zone, between all the Pacific regions accumulated 5-45mm have been obtained, Central Valley amounts between 4-15mm and the Caribbean regions have presented very little and lagged rains to the mountainous sectors with punctual maximums of only 5mm.
Forecast: For the remainder of the evening period, it is expected that the pattern of downpours with thunderstorms will continue in a well-localized way in all regions of the Pacific, estimating amounts of 10-45mm with the possibility of higher amounts in a specific way, for the Valley Central and the North Zone, it is expected that the constant pattern of rains of variable intensity will prevail, projecting amounts between 5-30mm, finally for the Caribbean, it is estimated that in the remainder of the afternoon there will be short-term rains that can reach amounts between 5- 8mm
During the first hours of the night, the rains will continue, especially in coastal areas of the Pacific and Central Valley, amounts between 5-25 mm with possible higher amounts of a specific nature.
Warning: Special attention due to high percentage of soil saturation and risk of landslides in the Central and South Pacific.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
- Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
