Aviso Meteorológico

Rainy and electric activity this afternoon in the Central and South Pacific

May 29, 2021
12.05 p.m.

Discussion: The proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone coupled with local factors such as warm morning temperatures and entry of sea breezes from the Pacific Ocean; They are ideal conditions for the formation of cloudiness and in turn the occurrence of rains and downpours with a thunderstorm during this afternoon and early evening.

Forecast: During this afternoon, isolated but strong rains and downpours with a thunderstorm are expected in the Central and South Pacific, accumulated estimated between 40-75 mm, higher amounts are possible locally. For the Central Valley, the Nicoya Peninsula, as well as the Caribbean mountains and the Northern Zone, rains and isolated electrical storms are expected, amounts between 10-40 mm.

It is estimated that the rainy activity extends during the first part of the night period, especially in coastal areas of the Pacific.

Warning: Special attention in the Central and South Pacific as episodes of strong rain may occur in a localized way.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation and / or stream overflow.
  • Be cautious against electrical storms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind or strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
  • Prevention in areas prone to landslides.
