Weather Warning

Rains will extend into the night hours in the South and Central Pacific

December 29, 2020
4.45 p.m.

Discussion: The entry of humidity in combination with the warm morning temperatures have caused this afternoon cloud developments and isolated showers in regions of the Central and South Pacific, as well as west of the Central Valley; the highest accumulated are registered in the south of the country with maximums of 45 mm.

Forecast: In the rest of the afternoon and during the first hours of the night, rains and downpours will appear in the South and Central Pacific, amounts between 30-60 mm are estimated. In addition, isolated rains are possible to the west of the Central Valley and sectors of Miramar de Puntarenas and surroundings, with accumulated between 10-20 mm.

Warning: Special attention in the Central and South Pacific due to strong precipitation events.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to flooding of rivers and streams, as well as in areas prone to landslides.
  • Prevention of wind gusts and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
